Dear Parents,
Welcome back from Pesach vacation!  Our students had a great transition back last week and this one as well.  Everyone was eager to see his or her friends again and to play and learn!
We’ve been preparing for Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, though song, movement, and art.  Please join us next week on Monday at 11:30 for our celebration and picnic (outdoors or indoors, depending on the weather).  We’ll enjoy a meal of pita, falafel, chamutzim (pickles), chummus—all the traditional and delicious Israeli foods.  Please RSVP to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Art
We have been learning all about the Israeli flag and the colors of blue and white, working in various media to replicate the flag and also work with tones of blue and white  with a variety of materials:  pastels, fabric, and paints.  On Thursday, we finger painted “Israeli style,”  pouring blue paint on the table and using our fingers to draw in the paint.  We then pressed paper over the images, creating a reverse image.
Shabbat Shalom!

Yom Ha’atzmaut
Israel is having a birthday, so we are getting ready to celebrate!  We’ve been singing, dancing, learning about the flag, and taking a musical “trip” to Israel (see below).  On Monday, we will take a virtual trip to Israel, on an “airplane” with “passports,” and
we’ll take a little “tour.”

Cooking
Since Israel is having a birthday, we have to celebrate, so what better way than to make our own birthday cakes?  We made individual brownie cakes on Friday, which we will send home for a special
Shabbat/Yom Haatzmaut treat!

Nutrition:  What is Protein, and Why Do We Need It?

Protein builds bones, muscle, provides energy for growing and playing and also fuels the development of the brain. A deficiency in protein can negatively affect the immune system, muscle and tissue development, brain functioning, and other aspects of overall health.  Your child’s meals should all include at least some protein.  Sources of protein include dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yoghurt, nuts and legumes such as beans and peas, fish, eggs, soy, and of course, meat (when at home).  Try to include some protein at every meal for great energy and healthy growth!
